This Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, is Small Business Saturday, a day for celebrating and recognizing the contributions of small business on our local community and broader economy. Whether you’re finishing up some holiday shopping or looking to treat yourself, here are 10 ways that you can support your favorite indie creators and small businesses.

1. Get social.

Give a shout out to your favorite small businesses on social media by tagging them and adding the hashtags #ShopSmall, #KeepItLocal, and #SmallBusinessSaturday.

2. Leave a positive review.

Leave a positive review for products and services that you’ve purchased from small businesses on sites like Google Business Reviews, Yelp, Etsy, or Amazon. Don’t forget your favorite indie creators. Show your appreciation for their amazing content by liking, commenting, and sharing their content on social media platforms. Leave a review for your favorite podcasts on audio apps like Apple Podcasts or podcast platforms like Podchaser.

3. Treat yourself to a delicious meal.

Dine at a local restaurant or order takeout. If you’re ordering takeout, call the restaurant and place your order instead of placing your order through a third-party website. This will save you and the restaurant money on fees.

4. Get adventurous.

Support a local outfitting company by booking an outdoor adventure like horseback riding or going on ATV tour. If you need some inspiration or prefer to stay indoors, you can always search for unique experiences on Airbnb.

5. Enjoy live entertainment.

The Covid-19 pandemic has devastated the performing arts industry. Show your support by buying tickets to a local show, concert, or performance.

6. Cook an entire meal made from local ingredients.

Plan a meal that uses fresh ingredients from a local deli and grocer. If you’re feeling extra fancy, consider picking up fresh baked bread or dessert from a local bakery. You could even add a nice bottle of wine or some craft beers from a local wine and liquor store or brewery.

7. R&R.

Pamper yourself with some friends and family members by scheduling a massage, manicure and pedicure, or facial at a local salon.

8. Outsource housework.

Give yourself a break from chores around the house by hiring a local house cleaning or yard service. You can search for services and read reviews on websites like Thumbtack and HomeAdvisor.

9. Treat yourself to a new book.

Purchase a book or item from an independent bookstore or support indie publishers by purchasing a book on platforms like Bookshop.org or Alibris.

10. Purchase a gift card.

Buy a gift card from a small business. You can find a list of small businesses that offer gift cards on Square’s Give & Get Local directory.
